Merx is proud to have transformed an all new workspace for a leading global hedge fund’s base in Hong Kong. Merx, appointed for its project management, quantity surveying and construction administration services, was commissioned as part of a handpicked collaborative design and construction team to guide the overall project spend and timeline.

With a strong dedication to investing in its employees by giving the best workplace experience possible, the main objective was to create a space that would make staff feel like they are working from home.

As such ergonomics, aesthetics, and the integration of cutting-edge technology in a low-key manner were all of vital importance.

Taking direction from the client’s UK based in-house design firm, Merx was pivotal in driving the design brainstorming and refining process to result in a cohesive agreement on design concept and execution details. On every occasion, key decisions were escalated up to the company’s founder to ensure that the desired appearance were achieved.

The space features bespoke furniture and sustainable re-use materials from all over the world, from accent furniture pieces to quirky memorabilia, furnishing and decorative ornaments.

Merx developed a timeline and budget at the start of the project that was set but fluid to accommodate the sourcing of these unique materials and development of a creative yet functional design.

The resulting new office demonstrates a seamless integration of retail and hospitality detailing into corporate interior design, breaking away from the standard impression of an office in a commercial space.

“Supporting the Client team was an amazing experience. Originally introduced by Andy Niven, Merx quickly joined a hand-picked design and construction team to lead and manage an extraordinary fit-out. The brief was precise and required global sourcing of re-used materials to create a space unlike any achieved in Hong Kong. We were subsequently commissioned by the client to produce the same for Shanghai. We are proud to have been involved with this unique project.”

Merx successfully handed over the project on budget and on schedule, and gave the client a refreshing innovative space loved and admired by the Hong Kong staff. Merx was subsequently appointed by the client to deliver the Shanghai office with the same methodology and ambience.
